E. Direction. Some directors have a stronger hand than others in the making of a film. Directors may be interested in different elements of filmmaking. What role did the director have in producing the film you chose? What are the directors hallmarks?

The director in this movie (Alfred Hitchcock) is not the greatest director today. There are many flaws in his directing according to Hollywood and the modern day. I do not disagree that this movie and director was bad in its time period (1946). Most people born after this time period think that this movie is outdated and just plain sucks. The only reason this movie is ranked in the top 100 is because you got this list off a bad site that does not show the actual 100 top movies, keyword modern. This film had bad characterization. I didn’t know the characters names until one half into the movie. This movie was confusing and lacked a plot. I think that Alfred Hitchcock was a very troubled man. He worked so hard on creating great movies that he himself did not have time to truly enjoy life. Some of his movies resemble this. In the movie “The Birds,” birds began to become troubled by something. These birds became poisoned and turned to an evil lifestyle. In “Notorious” Alicia (Ingrid Bergman) reflects this in a way. The birds and Sebastian, the Nazi, are both alike in evilness. This Nazi that Ingrid marries tries to poison people with a poisonous substance in wine bottles. In the birds the birds are trying to transmit their poison to others just as the Nazi’s tried to infect the world with in world war two. I think Hitchcock truly realized what the world meant in this time period. People in this time period were terrified of the war and Germany. Every rich woman went to the movies these days and Hitchcock made it the most thrilling through history. The main target market at this time was high class women and men. These were the high class not cut out for the soldier’s hard life. They had it easy in America making money off the poor. When Hitchcock put a high class American in the crutches of a evil Nazi, that is what truly made this movie most suspenseful. I give Hitchcock a lot of credit for making such a prevalent and successful thriller in his day and age. However he is outdated and now in pathetic compared to modern civilization. One of Hitchcock’s claim to fame is the bitty’s in his films. If there are hot ladies all the men will want to go to the movies. Not that many people in the nine-teen forties were smart enough to know this simple fact. Hitchcock was smart for his time period and I think truly is a great director. He should remain in history books forever. tor’s hallmarks in this and other films?

Philadelphia

In Philadelphia they use a lot of types of shots. In one shot early in the clip you notice Beckett is ill. There is a close up of his face and it is very apparent in this shot. There is a high angle shot of Beckett also as if he will never get better and has no hope. Another extreme close up is of Beckett as he leaves the building, you can sense his dismay and discomfort in this shot.

One thing they add in is nondiagenic sound, which adds to the suspense and intense football action. I you want to see how you run the ball watch this clip it will throw a lot at you very fast just like Reggie.[Photo]

Too tough to die?

I may be too tough to die but Westerns on the other hand just dont make that cut. In this generation there is nothing more boring and monotonuos than Westerns. Too tough to die? They are already dead. The only reason anyone would ever watch one of these movies is if you were born before 1950 or your teacher forces you to watch one of these films, which are bad for the soul. The only way these movies would make it today is if they had Brad Pitt in them, and then they may make a few sales from some girls and some not so straight guys. These movies are pieces of history and belong nowhere in the future.

Goodfellas

This movie was set in New York. This movie resembles the Godfather. This movie is about a family that sticks together to get anything they want in life. They pay off everyone to avoid trouble. The main character Henry ever since a young kid knew everyone and was always up to something. This started with breaking out windows to stealing, jail time, murders, and cocaine deals. His two right hand men were Jimmy (Robert Dinero) and Tommy from home alone. Henry's wife Karen came from a jewish family and gets involved with the crime scene. The main problem in the movie is when someone rats out Henry in a heist. He is sent to jail for 10 years with a family left with no money for support. When he gets out he believes selling cocaine will solve all his financial problems. This ingenious plan works for a while and Henry and his family enjoy the riches in life. The only problem is no good thing lasts forever.

This way of life these "goodfellas" live is highly unlikely. There is so much stealing and mudering going on it would be hard to get away with. Only a very structered and organized family could live this way, but it is possible. The dialougue in this movie represented those of outlaws. There was lots of swearing and very funny drunken scenes where you could not tell if the characters were serious or not. One theme that hits me very strongly from this movie is how important family is in life. The actors in this movie were very convincing as far as their roles are played out in the movie. They do a very good job of acting as if they were truly insane murderers, or in Henry's case, coked out. One thing i noticed is in many of the murders there was a low key lighting used. It was very dark and spooky in the woods as they buried a main guy from Gambini's crew. The make up of blood was very prevalent throughout the movie. Their are a lot of close up shots of the actors as they dialougue back and forth to eachother. This was an important technique to use because it brought out the deeper emotions of the characters and there were many things to be discussed in this family. This movie had many lengthy cuts because many of the characters are drunk in the movie and cannot stop talking. Another thing i noticed was the freeze frames used. One example is when Henry blows up the cars at the beginning of the movie. The music in this movie really set the right emotions with what was happenning in the movie. As time progresses throughout the movie so does the music. I think the music really adds positively to this music and i think the music is very nice to listen too.

Superbad Review

The review i read made me not want to see this movie. Before i read this review i really wanted to see the movie because i heard it was hilarious. When i read this review it made this movie seem lame. It makes it sound like a one night mission that goes wrong with a couple of loser high school students.

"misadventures of Seth and Rogen on their booze quest, and Fogell who’s stuck riding in the cop car all night."

Ive had to many close experiences with the cops and drinking to appreciate this kind of comedy that this reviewer wrote about. There is nothing funny about a run in with the cops! Unless you get away.

The review points out many interesting points of interest to me. For one thing it is based on one night and these highschoolers adventures to the liqour store. It seems that this is a very realistic setting for high school students to have to deal with every weekend. I also see truth in these kids desire to rise to the top of the party life. In so many schools today kids are doing ridicoulous things to be cool or to go to parties. I believe that this movie is trying to point out how stupid high schoolers can sometimes be. And many times this is very funny and this is just one example of what high schoolers go through growing up. Even though the reviewer did a bad job of portraying the comedy in this movie i still want to see this movie and judge it myself.
